A coding agent for your terminal

The first release of e runs on macOS and Linux. Connect a hosted or local model, work in a repository, and save conversations you can resume or branch later.

New features

  • Use hosted or local models, with supported subscription sign-in and API keys.
  • Resume conversations, branch from earlier prompts, and steer an active turn with another message.
  • Attach images, inspect full tool output with Ctrl+O, and run shell commands from the composer with !.
  • Customize instructions, prompt templates, skills, themes, and keybindings under ~/.e/.
  • Add tools, commands, and hooks through executable extensions. Use JSONL RPC for automation.
  • Install checksum-verified binaries for ARM64 and x86-64, and update with e update.

Improvements

  • Tool calls show live output, outcome counts, and edit statistics. Full write content stays in the tool-output reader.
  • Markdown supports highlighted code, tables, task lists, and terminal links. The composer wraps drafts and collapses large pastes.
  • Provider retries explain the cause and wait time. Quota and billing failures stop without retrying.

Fixes

  • Resuming a session follows the selected branch and retains interrupted replies. Torn final records can be recovered.
  • Shell commands enforce timeouts and stop their process groups. Edits reject stale file observations.
  • Extension crashes cannot leave calls waiting indefinitely, and exit paths restore terminal modes.
  • Security: model output and extension notices cannot inject terminal controls. Diagnostics omit credentials, and pasted API keys stay out of prompt history.
